Rare George III period, Naval Officer's five ball blued and gilt Spadroon by Gills, from a private collection. The single edged and fullered blade with royal crest and GRIII motifs amidst foliate decoration, 50% blued and gilt for half its length and with a fine chequered ‘birds beak’ ivory grip having a minor crack to top edge. The crossguard and knucklebow both have the famous five ball decoration. The steel scabbard retains both hanging rings and makers name. From the style of the grip this Spadroon would probably have been ordered by a naval officer. Good overall condition. Overall length 96cms.
